City of Brockton Community Forums

NIWL conducted two series of Community Forums for the Charles E. Shannon Grant led by the city in Brockton‚ MA around the theme of violence prevention. NIWL worked with the leadership committee to outline the goals and objectives of the project‚ provided an outline and guidance for the process‚ and facilitated sessions.

The participants were comprised of employers‚ youth‚ parents‚ youth-serving organizations‚ school personnel‚ city government‚ and private citizens. Participants were asked to identify critical elements of the theme about resolving the issues of gang violence in Brockton. The intent was for diverse people to produce visible results‚ and generate alternative solutions. Small groups explored solutions to share with the larger group those which they wanted to address. The initial forum brought approximately two hundred fifty (250) participants. The follow up action forum consisted of over one hundred (100) participants.
