Technical Assistance Academy for Green-Focused Programs of Study
The 2009-2010 National Research Center for Career and Technical Education Technical Assistance Academy is supporting states in developing “green-focused” career technical education (CTE) programs of study (POS) tailored to state and regional economic needs. Five states were engaged in a 14-month process with an NIWL facilitator who provided ongoing assistance to diverse state teams (with representatives from secondary‚ postsecondary‚ state and local government‚ business and industry). The goal was for the team to develop a model green-focused POS which provides a non-duplicative sequence of academic and CTE courses spanning the secondary and postsecondary levels leading to a postsecondary degree or certificate in a “green-focused” career field. Each state team presented the “green” POS they developed in a series of CTE conferences to disseminate replicable models to other states. The five states are now at different stages of implementing the model green-focus POS.
